INTERVIEW

DO YOU REMEMBER YOUR FIRST FLIGHT? HOW WAS IT?

The instant right after take off, the views. That moment when you find the thermal that you were wishing for. The power of the core of a thermal, lifting you up like a feather.
The peaceful final glide, top landing in the middle of nowhere. The hug with your flying buddies after an amazing flight, the laughter or tears shared with a tandem passenger.
And a lot more!

WHat special MOMENTs DO YOU FLY for?

There are simply too many of those moments to name just one. Taking off after a hike and flying straight into the sky is beautiful every single time. Landing high up in the mountains in the evening and soaking in the last rays of sunlight, while the valley below is already in shadow – that, too, is something special. But also, on long cross-country flights, gliding out after a full day in the air... or flying with good friends, with birds, between clouds or above a sea of fog – those are moments that never lose their magic.

YOUR THREE TOP FLYING AREAS?

Swiss Alps. Indian Himalayas. My home – Uruguay.

WHAT ARE YOU DOING ON A DAY THAT IS NOT FLYABLE?

You could find me in the workshop checking or repairing gliders, teaching theory, or immersed in some administrative stuff on the computer. Outside of work I go into nature, water sports, time with friends and family, and hopefully a daily moment for reading, writing and meditation.

MOST IMPORTANT PARAGLIDING SUCCESSES?

Finishing second at Eigertour 2025 was a special one. But I’m equally proud of completing a full vol-biv expedition in the Indian Himalayas safely, and of every hike & fly or vol-biv adventure that ends with beautiful sunsets and a wonderful story. I also loved performing a trapeze show at Coupe Icare with Lucy on the Bibeta.
Proud of teaching with full dedication and watching them become amazing pilots, and seeing how paragliding also changed their lives. Taking dozens of Uruguayans to fly in the Alps and Colombia every year and expanding their boundaries. Being the first check and repair centre for paragliders in my country and keeping my community safe.

WHY DO YOU FLY FOR ADVANCE?

I know gliders from the inside out, literally. For many years, my work focused on inspecting and repairing wings from different brands, which gave me a broad basis for comparison. I started working at the ADVANCE Headquarter atelier in Thun in 2020, checking and repairing their gliders, and more recently worked as a test pilot. I have seen the whole process in detail: how their gliders are designed, sewn, tested, checked and repaired. I know the high standards of perfection behind them.
When it comes to handling and overall feeling in the air, they are my favorites.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE FOOD?

I could live on good sushi. Or fresh fish and seafood.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE QUOTE IN LIFE?

I like this quote from Richard Bach:
“You are never given a dream without also being given the power to make it come true. You will have to work for it, however.”
